Bargain Bin DVD - A Review of sorts - Scarecrow
After deciding to delve into the bargain bin of dvd's I thought you know I could unearth a cult classic, that would rock my world, yeah this one looks good... hmm Scarecrow, could be good... oh no...no how wrong I was...so very, very wrong. At a slight 78 minutes long (even then it seems overly long), the opening credits go for 4 minutes and the end credits for at least 10 minutes - I shit you not. Once the film finally gets underway, we follow around Lester Dwervick, bullied student, sensitive artist with not a friend in the world. His mother is slutty, drunk and whitetrash. The only person to show Lester any kindness is Judy(played by B grade Horror film queen and seriously hot Tiffany Shepis), the sheriff's daughter but once Lester sees her with another boy, all hell breaks loose. After busting into his caravan and catching her mother getting banged by bloke that could be the long lost cousin of Earl Hickey - (who incidentally gets to say the line "Looky here, boy. I'm gonna be doing your mama real good" - No I am not kidding) Lester gets chased by Earl's cousin into a cornfield (why not?) and gets killed right beneath a scary looking scarecrow. Anyway time passes and people get killed etc...could it be Lester killing from beyond the grave? Am I seriously asking that question?
SPOILER - Lester becomes the scarecrow. There I said it. The reason he becomes the scarecrow?...Um..err...I'll get back to you.
Now I'm no farmer BUT since when can scarecrows do martial arts? Lester acquires this ability, as well as the ability to kill someone with a corn cob. The blood and gore effects aren't too bad considering this looks like it had the budget of a gonzo porn shoot. The acting is either terrible or totally lacking any care factor, I can't decide which. The two best things about this film
1. Tiffany Shepis
2. When the scarecrow kills a guy with a shovel and says "Can you dig it?" Shakespeare would be proud.
Scariest thing about this film - it has two sequels, now I am worried.
So the bargain bin DVD didn't work this time...but next time I could uncover a piece of not trash, hopefully with more Shepis.
Watch this with 30 beers, you might get lucky and pass out.
