Film Review - Unstoppable

Unstoppable Tony Scott's new thrill ride knows what it is and doesn't try to be something its not. Two good leads (Denzel Washington and Chris Pine) and Scott's fast pace keep the film moving along, so much so that you don't mind the sometimes corny dialogue. An out of control train loaded with combustible and poisonous chemicals threatens to derail in town of Stanton whilst Frank (Washington) and Will (Pine) have an assignment on the tracks which puts them on a collision course with the runaway train. It's a fairly simple premise (inspired by true events...again) and a paint by numbers script but still that can't dull the experience, as Scott ratchets up the tension very quickly and manages to hold the audience for the majority of the film. Both Pine and Washington have some good charisma flying between them and its really these two (with the slight help of Rosario Dawson amongst others) that carry the film. Scott's direction is fast and choppy but well suited to the film. Unstoppable takes us down a well worn track and we know where the destination is going to be but it's a hell of a loud, fast ride getting there.
