Review - Hereafter

As Clint Eastwood's library of films expands, it is almost like people are waiting for a mis-step from the director. Hereafter isn't it, sure it's no Gran Torino but it is a good film. A very slow burning film about what is out there after death.
Three separate stories that join at end, is what makes up Hereafter. (Matt Damon) is George Lonegan who is a former psychic, who has withdrawn from the world around him so he can have a 'normal' life. (Cecille De France) Marie Lelay is a French news reporter who gets caught up in a tsunami and has a near death experience and finally Marcus (George McLaren & Frankie McLaren) is trying to get over the death of his brother and twin and an heroin addicted mother.
Solidly acted by all, with Damon a stand out, Hereafter plays out very methodically and at times seems to slow down to a crawl, maybe some sharper edits could have been made but I guess that would spoil the nature of the film and to be honest its a small quibble.
The tsunami scenes are absolutely terrifying and amazingly shot. The scene has all the panic you'd expect from such an event but also manages to keep it personal to the film's story.
Don't go into the film expecting it be The Sixth Sense part 2, this is a very different film. A slow paced, well made look at how people deal with their grief, their expectations, their life and death.
