Review - I Sell The Dead

How great is this film? Let me count the ways.
I Sell The Dead is one of the funniest, Gothic tales ever put to film.
The story centers around two grave robbers in the early 18th century. More than this though as it focuses on Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan) the younger of the two, as he recounts his life (whilst waiting to be put to death) in the grave robbing business. Business was good.
A really great story, aided by some fine acting from Monaghan and Larry Fassenden as Willie Grimes who is Blake's master and eventually his friend. Not to mention of course the ever so awesome Ron Perlman, who once again does a stellar job.
Director Glenn McQuaid does a good job in keeping the story moving along at a great pace especially in the first half of the film. He does have a flair for visuals and it is on show here despite the budgetary limits but that doesn't detract from it and probably makes it even more enjoyable. The film has slight Sam Raimi feel to it, with every scene laced by black humour.
The story does bog down in the middle but it quickly picks itself up again leading into the finale and despite the cute ending, I Sell The Dead is fantastic, funny and well worth your time.

As Arthur Blake would say - Never trust a corpse.
