Review - The Prowler (AKA Rosemary's Killer)

Ah, the 1980's slasher flick. Some went on to have sequel after sequel after sequel made and some didn't. This was one them that didn't. However I think unfairly because The Prowler is an intense and suspenseful slasher flick, that doesn't necessarily make any sense but it does have some really good scares in it and let's face that's why you are watching it.
Sure this story is an old chestnut (although at the time not that old). Kids at a dance get picked off but some 35 years earlier that same thing happened. It's a device used by almost 90 percent of slasher films except this time the killer wears old WWII army gear because it was 1945 when the last killing happened, convenient huh?
I don't know whether it was the over glossy lighting, the creepy camera movement or the music which was filtered through...something....all the way through the film, making it sound ...well, like an 80s slasher film, but it worked on the base level that it sets out to be creepy and it damn well is.
The effects (created by master make up dude - Tom Savini) are really above and beyond most of the other slashers from this generation, with some very impressive kills. A quirky little entry into this sub genre but one well worth seeking out, if you want curl up with some popcorn and scare yourself (or your friends) just a little.
