Review - The Woods

Lucky McKee's second feature (after the incredible and thoroughly under rated May) is The Woods. Set in 1965, The Woods is about a troubled girl Heather (Agnes Bruckner) who encounters mysterious happenings in the woods surrounding an isolated girls school that she was sent to by her estranged Mother and caring Father.
The film starts off really well and if it had continued along this path it could have been a classic but it falls away a little, seemingly the more you know about the school, the more the movie loses its way.
All the acting is pretty good (including an appearance by Bruce Campbell as Heather's father - if you don't know who that is go and have a good look at yourself) with Bruckner bringing a lot to a role that could have really fallen flat had she not invested in it.
With nods to the Evil Dead and some of the Giallo films of the past, The Woods ends up being an ok film, with a bunch of unrealised potential.
