4 of the best sequels ever

se·quel
1. A published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one.
2. Something that takes place after or as a result of an earlier event.
3. Mostly a far inferior film, produced by greedy studios for monetary gain.

Sequel...the very word sends chills down my spine. However, every now then a sequel actual does continue the story of the first film in a way that is both fresh yet familiar whilst being good enough to stand on its own as a film in its own right...don't believe me? Then proceed...downwards..?
If you disagree, feel free to add to your own nominations!

1. A Nightmare On Elm St - Part 3
Oh what? You were expecting Godfather II? Jam it, buddy.
Nightmare on Elm St III not only continues the story, (very nicely exorcising NMOES 2 from our minds) but it expands on it, having Heather Langenkamp back as Nancy is great and it helps the story along and a very young Patricia Arquette is super awesome in it too! Bringing in some excellent new Kruger lore, whilst being scary, inventive and above all actually entertaining.

2. Another 48 hours
Another 48 Hours – Back in the day when Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy were box office drawcards...Whilst 48 Hours was a decent film, Another 48 hours upped the ante with a better story, better action and is a funnier film. Murphy is in good form and Nolte plays the grizzled cop really well, before he was even all that grizzled...it surpasses the original whilst still being a good enough film to stand on its on. Huzzah.

Rob Zombie’s sequel to his own first film – the messy nightmare that is House of 1000 Corpses – is an absolute spine crushing, head stomping and any other painful analogy I can think of experience.
Starting a few months on from where HO1C’s ended we visit with the Firefly clan once again and this time, Zombie turns it up to 11. Ripping everything apart and turning the first film’s style on its head, this becomes a 1970’s style exploitation/road movie/revenge film that is his best film to date. Everything is better, the story, the unflinching horror, the cameo’s and then just when you think you’ve got it figured out, Zombie goes and makes you feel sorry for the depraved Firefly clan. Damn you, Zombie!

·     *I have to come clean here. I freaking love this film, so any chance I get to put it in a list I will. It is thoroughly under rated, so do yourselves a favour!

Lets get one thing straight – Ron Pearlman is a god. Ok with that out of the way - Hellboy 2 is one of the best ever comic book film sequels. After getting an introduction to the characters in Hellboy,  Guillermo del Toro expands this world , with some wonderful monsters and some new characters.Let's face it anytime you get to see Selma Blair as a human fireball is pretty cool.
