Review - Frozen

Adam Green's squirm inducing and panic filled, micro budget film Frozen, is a great experiment in less is more.
Describing Frozen makes the plot seem like an art house oddity -
Three people go skiing, get stuck on chair lift and try to find a way off it...
However, it isn't an art house film, it is a straight out horror with the blackest sense of humour and Green tries to squeeze all he can from it.
The group that gets stuck on the chair lift Parker (Emma Bell), Joe (Shawn Ashmore) and Dan (Kevin Zegers) all interact very well. The dynamic of the group is key to the characters actions and the film cleverly switches a third wheel situation between the girlfriend (Bell) and the best friend (Ashmore) who both claim territoriality over Dan.
The film is brutal in its treatment of the main characters, whether it be through the closing in blizzard, injuries - either serious or just plain icky, the poor bastards never get chance to regroup...having said that they go to pieces very quickly.
A few dumb decisions aside this film is a great low budget thriller in the vein of Open Water.
The irony is of course is that chair lifts are hard enough to get off in the first place...
