Review - Moneyball

Ok, so this review was a while in coming and yes I've missed the Oscars boat and all that but in case you haven't heard Moneyball is really, really good.
Following the true story of how baseball was broken down in a math formula thus taking away any enjoyment from the game....well that is a cynical view but an accurate one. As players are treated as numbers and GM's have to make those decisions to move players on, without any emotionality attached.
Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill are fantastic in the film and even better when they are on screen together as the GM Billy Beane and Peter Brand the computer programming and coding whiz respectively.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman is great once again, this time as the exasperated coach Art Howe.
In a film that is very baseball heavy in that a lot of the talk is revolved around hits, bases and scoring but it doesn't feel like you need to know a lot of baseball to enjoy the film.
The film felt very understated and I think it worked perfectly with the whimsical feel of the film which interestingly is at odds with 'new way' of putting together a team as shown in the film.
Certainly one of Pitt's better roles who certainly seems to be getting better with age.
