Review - Repo Men

Why is the future always so shit?

At least in Sci-Fi films like Repo Men it is.

First off though just what is Repo Men about?
In the future humans have extended and improved our lives through highly sophisticated and expensive mechanical organs created by a company called "The Union". The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is that if you don't pay your bill, "The Union" sends its highly skilled repo men to take back its property... with no concern for your comfort or survival. Former soldier Remy (Jude Law) and his partner Jake (Forrest Whittaker) are two of the best organ repo men in the business.
From there the story follows a fairly predictable route. However the first hour or so of this film is absolutely brilliant. Great fun is had following Remy around on his certain repossession jobs, his voice overs are hilarious - intentionally or not. It is the overly long, tedious and predictable second half of the film that brings the previous hour and bit way down, with a colour by numbers sci-fi script you have probably seen a thousand times....that is until the ending, which raises it above most average sci-fi and gives the film one of the more bitter-sweet endings in recent memory.

Broke Mountain 2: Jungle Fever - proved popular

Jude Law and Forrest Whittaker make a great team, the way the go about things is almost like a buddy-cop comedy, both playing off each other with Whittaker especially seeming to relish his role. The one actor that does steal the show is Liev Schreiber as the CEO of The Union, selling artificial organs to desperate people and looking and acting every part the slimy, money hungry salesman.
The effects are quite good, even in the repossession scenes there is no shying away from what they are doing.
If the second half of the film was enthralling as the first half, you would have a sci-fi classic, as it is we have an above average sci-fi flick.
