Review - The Watch

Silly plot ideas are not something new, they have been around forever. However the risk is run when the silly plot doesn't match the films tone but in The Watch, everything is stupid, silly and they know it - that's why it works.
The quick plot breakdown - Four everyday suburban guys come together after an idea for a neighbourhood watch is formed, some use it as an as an excuse to escape their humdrum lives one night a week. But when they accidentally discover that their town has become overrun with aliens posing as ordinary suburbanites, they have no choice but to save their neighborhood - and the world - from total extermination.
Good Cop - Weird Cop.
So there you have an outlandish plot, the idea stolen from Invasion of the Body Snatchers and done time and time again. Here however it is given the comedy treatment. Stiller, Vaughan, Hill and relative newcomer Richard Ayoade are all pretty much on song with Stiller and Vaughan playing the stereotyped role they have played in a many a film, with Jonah Hill getting to play something a little different. If all the jokes seem fairly familiar, it is. Written by Jared Stern with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg you kind of know what to expect in the joke department, the jokes pushed out at break neck speed, if you miss one of them or don't like one of them, the next one will be along in a few seconds.
It is a by the numbers kind of film but that doesn't matter because the ride is a lot of fun.
Oh and if there is an intergalactic invasion imminent and if you want to help the aliens see the good side of humanity - just lick their balls.
