5 Of The Scariest Films for Halloween

Halloween – A time when everyone brings out a list of scary films to watch…and being easily led there is no way that I am not going to do one.
So here is the 5 scariest films to watch on Halloween (or anytime!). With fear being such a selective thing, I am bound to put something on the list you will hate or I’ll miss something altogether. So drop me a comment and if I get enough responses (i.e any!) I’ll put together another list.

WARNING: Any of these scenes can and will scare you. You have been warned.

The Exorcist  – Is there anything scarier that a possessed little girl? The answer of course is no. The horror film that proved they weren’t just the domain of grindhouse theatres or B grade movie houses. A terrifying experience – especially if you are religious!

The Descent – Sure being trapped in a cave after some spelunking is scary enough but throw in an emotionally fragile bunch of women, some lingering secrets and oh yeah a race of underground dwelling human eating creatures and you have one of the scariest films ever made.
Ju-on –  Known as The Grudge, this film terrified me. I really couldn’t work out was the hell was going on till halfway through the film, from then on out it was a non-stop shock fest. Scary kids, scary ghosts, the empty soulless houses and the ever present fear that not even getting under the doona can save you! This scene is from the remake but its the same scene none the less!

Inside  – This movie is upsetting and genuinely frightening. Not so much for the gore and blood of which a river flows through it but there is more to this. Not just a blood fest, the ace in the pack this film has is that an unborn child’s life is at stake. Like Halloween in terms of suspense, like a car crash in terms of impact.
Halloween  – Of course no Halloween movie night would be complete without John Carpenter’s prototype slasher. Suspenseful, brutal with the most recognisable score in horror film history, Halloween introduced the world to the seemingly immortal killing machine Michael Myers. The scene with Laurie Strode hiding in the closet as Michael rips it apart is fear defined.
